John Daniel

John Daniel was born in 1836 in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He was a man who took a keen interest in horses.  He had such horses as Royal Charlie, Lord Lyon, and others that have left a name for themselves. For many years he was on the committee of the Victoria Agricultural Society, Heidelberg, also of the Royal Melbourne, and a good member of the Whittlesea Society.  He was a member of the Whittlesea Council for many years and took a keen interest in municipal matters.  He married Mary Joan Gibbs, daughter of Albion and Mary Ann Gibbs of Whittlesea in May 1876 at the Royal Mail Hotel, Whittlesea.

John and Mary had 4 sons and 2 daughters together. Sadly, Mary died in 1898, but remarried the following year to Margaret McClelland.

John died on 12 February 1911 in Whittlesea, and is buried at the Yan Yean Cemetery.
