Presentation Talk "Female Maternity Attendants in Colonial Victoria 1850- 1900"

Dr Madonna Grehan is a Registered General Nurse and Midwife and holds a PhD from the University of Melbourne.  Her doctoral research focussed on a history of midwives, nurses, and the health of women in Victoria from the 1840s to the present.

In this presentation, Madonna will discuss her use of coronial investigations into maternal deaths as evidence of practice.   Her interest in these records was sparked when examining primary sources at the Women’s Hospital in Melbourne.  These records and other records offer valuable evidence of practice, and of community expectations about that practice.

Lunch will be from 12-1 pm followed by the AGM and then by our Guest Speaker.
